IMPROV Drop In

This 90 min introductory workshop allows curious students the chance to meet one of our instructors and sample some of the fun things you'll do in a full 8 week improv class at PHIT.

You'll learn a few core improv concepts such as Yes And!, create fun characters from nothing, and dip your toes into scene work.

Intro workshops are a lot of fun and perfect for people of all experience levels. No prior experience required only a willingness to laugh and be silly with new people.

PHIT teaches students from all walks of life and all ages. Whether you are looking to make a go of improvising, improve your public speaking confidence, or just try something new and meet new folks, we promise you the most fun you have had all day!

There is no obligation to register for an 8 week class when you join our drop in sessions.

We feel so confident you will have a great time in our Drop In you will want to sign up for a full class ASAP!  When you register for a currently offered class within five days of attending a drop in, we will apply your $20 Drop In fee to the cost of that class. It’s like getting a FREE WORKSHOP!

About the Instructor:

Dr. Taupin is a psychologist with a private practice in Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia specializing in work with individuals who identify as Neuro-diverse - especially folks on the Autism Spectrum. After graduating with a doctorate degree in clinical psychology in 2018, Adam began infusing improv techniques into his work in order to empower individuals who may struggle with confidence in social settings. He has taken many classes at PHIT and has been performing Improv since 2013. He designed and teaches the Improv 099 at PHIT - an innovative course specifically designed to cater to the needs of neourodiverse individuals. In addition, Adam leads other Core level improv classes at PHIT and can be seen playing with the PHIT improv team Teachers Lounge.

About the Instructor:

Emily Harnett (they/them) is thrilled to be teaching at PHIT. Emily is a life long actor, writer, comedian and professional laugher. They earned their BFA in Acting from Point Park University. Emily previous studied at Emerson College’s Comedic Arts program. They currently write for their sketch channel which is launching in the next few month and perform stand up around Philly. They are passionate about teaching through play, exploration and acceptance.

About the Instructor:

 

Chris Esperance is a comedian, writer, improviser based in Philadelphia, PA. Chris co-hosted the Mad Ethnic Comedy festival which included a variety of improv, podcast and stand-up acts from the tri-state area. He has improvised on Harold, House teams including Metropolis and Dunk Tank and several Indie teams in his years as a performer. Chris was accepted to Magnet Theater’s REMIX sketch diversity showcase and wrote/performed in PIT’s NYC Sketchfest. He has trained at the Philadelphia Improv Theater (PHIT) and the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB-NY) and writes for the sketch comedy team Pagliacci (@pagliaccicomedy) with the Boogiemanja sketch comedy collective.

About the Instructor:

Jasmine is an artist, educator, and arts manager who has been improvising since 2014. She has trained and performed at Empire Comedy, Reno Improv, Washington Improv Theater, and now PHIT. She is also member of Roll Play: An Improvised Adventure, Off the Record: The Improvised Music Documentary, and the Improv Double Feature at CSz Philadelphia.  Outside of performing, Jasmine is the Managing Director of Pig Iron Theatre Company, a producer of experimental work that also runs a training program in devised theatre.
